You might be here because...
You’re anxious, low, lonely or overwhelmed.Something in a relationship or your family keeps troubling you.You find yourself repeating the same patterns without really understanding why. You’ve talked things through with friends, thought about them endlessly or tried just getting on with things, but you still feel stuck.Or perhaps it’s harder to put into words than that. You just know that something needs to be different.
Therapy can help you put words around what is happening, spot unnoticed patterns, and find movement where you've been feeling stuck.
How I work
For me, psychotherapy is first of all a relationship. You bring whatever’s difficult, confusing or getting in the way of your life, and we look at it together. That might mean finding words for something that has been hard to articulate, noticing patterns that keep repeating, or looking more closely at what may sit beneath the problem that first brought you in. Sometimes the work involves relationships or family history; sometimes it is about how you understand yourself and what is happening in your life now.I bring curiosity, attention and different ways of thinking about what we uncover together. My training is integrative, and I have a particular interest in psychodynamic and existential approaches, relationships and family patterns, and the ways our past can continue to appear in the present.Over time, therapy can help you understand what is happening more clearly, and begin to recognise and reflect on those patterns for yourself. From there, it can become easier to move where you’ve felt stuck, make decisions where you’ve felt uncertain, and begin to try something different.

Things we can explore
People come to me with all sorts of difficulties, including:- Anxiety & feeling overwhelmed
- Depression & low mood
- Relationships & family difficulties
- Feeling stuck or lacking direction
- Loss & lonelinessAnd sometimes none of these quite captures it. You may simply have a sense that something needs attention.

About Chris
I’m Chris Schmidt Martin, a psychotherapist based in Cork City.I first came to psychotherapy when I found myself going around some of the same questions and struggles repeatedly, and therapy gave me somewhere to begin looking at them differently.Psychotherapy helped bring me a sense of ease, and I became curious about what was happening in the process. That curiosity eventually led me into training.I completed a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2024 at PCI College, validated by Middlesex University. I am a Pre-Accredited Member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have been in practice for four years.I’m interested in psychotherapy as part of life, rather than something separate from it. Relationships, family, work, culture and the wider world all have a part to play in how we experience ourselves.
